In February, Aaron Bushnell set himself on fireplace in protest of the quickly worsening Palestinian genocide. Since then, public discussions concerning the efficacy and which means of self-immolation as a type of protest have begun to flow into. A part of that dialogue was the concern that protest would lead to copy-cat immolations over time. Whereas the story is growing and the explanations are usually not clearly understood, a second, probably associated self-immolation has taken place right this moment in New York. From ABC:
A person apparently set himself on fireplace in a park throughout the road from the New York Metropolis courthouse the place former President Donald Trump is on trial…The person was badly burned and brought away from the scene on a stretcher.
It was not instantly clear if the incident was associated to Trump’s trial.
The obvious protestor threw flyers in to the sky suggesting that the self-immolation might have been partly a response to NYU:
